Announcing The Spectator's Middle School Writing Competition
The Spectator announces its first writing competition for middle school students.
Reading Time: 1 minute
Founded in 1915, The Spectator is Stuyvesant’s biweekly student-run newspaper. We seek to cover any and all developments in our school and city community while also providing a platform for student opinions on current events, media, and sports. In order to foster a spirit conducive to student journalism and promote an interest in writing among NYC youth, The Spectator is hosting a writing contest open to all NYC students in the sixth through eighth grades.
Essay Prompts:
Write about a topic of your choice. This can be a poem, editorial, or personal piece. Please limit your response to 1000 words.
Here are some ideas to get you thinking:
- Tell us a story about yourself that provides a unique perspective on you. This could be an anecdote about a time you spent with family or friends, a noteworthy experience you had—anything you feel is worth sharing.
- Write about one problem you want to solve. Please think outside of the box—it can be as big or as small of a problem as you want.
- What person has had the biggest impact on your life?
- What is one challenge you have faced at home or at school? How did you overcome it?
