SING! by the Numbers

The Spectator’s News Department provides the budget breakdown for the SING! 2025 productions.

This year, each SING! production was funded with $5,000 from the Student Union (SU) and an additional $2,000 from the Parents Association, totaling to $7,000 allocated for each SING!. Tech crews were also given a separate budget of $1,000 each for buying wood under the jurisdiction of Ms. Bernstein. Profits from SING! 2025, including leftover budget money and ticket sale revenue, will go to the SU general fund, in part to contribute to funding SING! 2026.


SophFrosh SING! was led by sophomore coordinator Emma Ching; sophomore producers Milan Gittens, Melanie Xie, and Hilda Liang; as well as freshmen producers Calista Harrington and Claire Stansberry. In total, they spent a little over $4,800, around $400 less than what SophFrosh spent in 2024 and only about a third of their $7,000 budget.

The costumes crew used the majority of the SophFrosh SING! budget, almost $2,100, to create the intricate dresses and suits that exemplified SophFrosh’s fairytale theme. The second largest sum of money was spent on art—almost $1,000—in order to make the wide backdrops consisting of castles and towns. Props, another technical crew, also spent around $500 for items like the Fairy Godmother’s wand and Pinocchio’s PS5.

In terms of performance crews, who spent a lot less than their technical counterparts, flow took the lead with $385 spent on fans, yo-yos, and glowsticks that lit up the stage. Latin and Bolly followed closely behind with $266 and $230, respectively. This was a slight drop from last year, when flow and Latin both spent slightly more than $400 each.

Other expenses included $191 for makeup, $165 for Slate, $38 for cast, $16 for band,  and $9 for hip-hop.

Junior SING! was coordinated by Joanne Huang and produced by Sama Daga, William Farmer, Amanda Greenberg, Leah Riegel, and Sydney Wong. In total, they spent just over $5,000—about $300 less than last year—and remained under their budget of $7,000. 

Costumes utilized a substantial amount of the Junior SING! Budget, spending $1,690 to create their intricate and beautifully crafted outfits for performers. Furthermore, art and tech spent a similar amount to make the haunting set come to life, $851 and $791, respectively.

Significantly, there was an increase in spending for flow this year: $593 compared to the $482 spent last year. Remaining expenses included $630 for props, $190 for makeup, $144 for Slate, $108 for Bolly, and  $36 for Latin. 

Rayen Zhou coordinated Senior SING!, with Daniella Solomon, Malka Lubelski, Isaiah Edghill, Michelle Huang, and Johnny Lin serving as producers. This year, they spent $8,155.42, which was $1,155.42 over the $7,000 budget, a stark comparison to the previous year where they spent $4,618.79 with $2,381.21 remaining from their budget.

The majority of the show’s budget—$2,596—went into costumes, which depicted the Roaring Twenties in various ways. Art came in second, utilizing $1,312 from the budget, a $757.48 increase from last year to create the stunning backdrop and setup that made Shirley’s Temple so iconic. 

In terms of dance, flow used the most out of the budget—$617 to create their exhilarating performance. Moreover, the renewed tap group spent $296, perhaps for new tap shoes that were needed for this year’s SING!, and used the least amount of any dance crew. 

Remaining expenses included $1,148 for tech, $1,135 for Slate, $548 for Latin, $279 for props, and $83 for cast.
